Location. The Santa Caterina Hotel is housed in a lovingly restored typical 19th century Sicilian house situated overlooking the sea at the foot of Mount Etna, in the historic town of Acireale. The Baroque Saint Sebastian Basilica is 100 metres from the hotel and the Museo dei Pupi dell'Opra (Puppet Museum) is 900 metres away. Acireale railway station is two kilometres from the hotel and Catania Fontanarossa Airport is 25 kilometres away, with an approximate driving time of 20 minutes.
Hotel Features. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool set in pretty landscaped gardens that overlook the sea. A complimentary continental buffet breakfast is served each morning and banquet facilities are available. Multilingual staff at the 24 hour front desk can organise trekking and mountain biking trips as well as excursions around Sicily. Secure parking is available for guests arriving by car.
The Santa Caterina's Enoteca Acquadiferro serves traditional specialities in a room with a timbered ceiling and views across the sea.
Guestrooms. The 20 guestrooms are located over two floors and have traditional Sicilian style decor and furnishings. Guestrooms open on to balconies with sea views and include satellite television, direct dial telephones, minibars, Internet connections (surcharge), and safes. Bathrooms provide hair dryers, bathrobes, and slippers.
Expert Tip. Sixteen kilometres from Acireale, on the slopes of Mount Etna, is the Castagno di Cento Cavilli, the Chestnut Tree of 100 Horses. This tree, split into three trunks, is reputed to be 2000 years old and is named from a legend that it sheltered 100 knights on horseback one stormy night.
