Location. The Breaffy House Hotel is located just outside Castlebar, Ireland, 18 kilometres from Westport, 27 kilometres from the holy mountain of Croagh Patrick and 39 kilometres from Ireland's national Marian shrine in Knock.
Hotel Features. An impressive, late 19th century sandstone building, Breaffy House is set within 90 acres of manicured gardens and rolling woodland. The hotel has been sensitively restored retaining period features including stone fireplaces and decorative wood floors, while the spa resonates with 1890s grandeur in its terracotta and cream tiled floors and delicately patterned glass. Spa facilities include an indoor heated pool and treatments such as hydrotherapy soaks, facial massages, and reflexology. There is also a fitness centre.
The Breaffy House Mulberry Restaurant has warm wood furniture and soft coloured, decorative fabrics. Open for breakfast and dinner, it uses fresh regional ingredients and serves international dishes. Lunches are also served in the Mulberry bar, which overlooks the hotel's estate and gardens.
Facilities for children include a playground, supervised playroom and crazy golf. It also offers and extensive range of children's activities including face painting, colouring and videos.
Guestrooms. There are 125 rooms built over three floors overlooking the hotel's grounds. Decor is simple with contemporary furnishings. All rooms have bathrooms. Room amenities include satellite television, tea and coffee makers, and hair dryers.
Expert Tip. Westport is an estate town built to plans drawn up by Georgian architect. James Wyatt. Impossible to miss is the Mall, a lovely tree lined boulevard. Guided walks are conducted twice weekly during the summer.
